Unless it’s a Dodge Journey
In that case what the fuck is wrong with you?

A friend of mine owned a Dodge Journey for years. When I found out I called the police

God I love the Journey.

Doubt that because it wouldn't have lasted them that long
![]() 06/18/2019 at 17:15 |

isn’t this the last production 4-speed sold in the usa?

The Dodge Journey is one of the best looking CUVs on the market currently, is insanely cheap, and is quite good in V6 form.
If you bought a 4 cylinder Journey, what the fuck is wrong with you?

Yaris, Corolla, Tacom a all held their 4 speeds longer than the Journey which switched to the 9 spd (4 cyl) and 6 spd (V6) in 2011.

Just because he owned it for years doesn’t mean it was drive- able for years.

Let me guess — he was never arrested?
Typical corrupt Mexican cops!

As long as the wheel in the sky keeps on turning, and you got to make it home. Do yo know where you will be tomorrow?

woah, that’s nuts.

Exactly, six cylinder ones aren’t terrible. They ride smooth and are decently quiet on the highway. I’d rather drive one than say a Versa or CVT crossover. The 4/4 ones are bad but boy do we sell a lot of them to Subprime buyers!
![]() 06/18/2019 at 17:21 |

I’d take a used 3.6 V6 Journey in a heartbeat. I’d also take an Avenger with that engine. I ain’t scared. I'd just be sure to get them cheap.

There were quite a few more than that on the list, those were just the ones I remembered off hand.

Don’t stop believing.

When we first bought the Odyssey, we took it on vacation. Another family rented a near-base model Journey.
We were jealous of the build quality and materials.
Not kidding. I won’t speak to it’s FCA-grade durability, but initial impressions count.

Crossover Utility Van...because it’s a mini van without a sliding door which somehow tricks people into buying it.

If the Dodge Journey had safety systems and better gas mileage, it wouldn’t be a bad car. In fact, it’s not really a bad car right now.
![]() 06/18/2019 at 17:27 |

It’s honestly one of the few CUVs I’d actually consider, mostly because it reminds me of the old vans...

Per wikipedia and dodge.com, it appears that the 4-speed transmission is still standard offering on the current production journey:

It’s the only CUV I’d consider. It reminds me of my vans in it’s styling.

The 3.6L/6-speed is a damn good combo.
The Avengers with that combo are seriously Old School Muscle fast.
![]() 06/18/2019 at 17:32 |

Huh, I thought they dropped the 4 speed in 2011 when they did the mid cycle refresh.
Oh well, not the first time I’ve been wrong, won’t be the last.

Can a CUV really be a car at all?

surprised me as well!
![]() 06/18/2019 at 17:47 |

I think the biggest problem is that the Journeys are in the minivan rows at rental car places. That thing is just a slightly larger hatchback at best. You aint fitting any shit in there that you expected to in a dodge caravan or similar!

As the owner of three 5-speed autos, this does not bother me.
![]() 06/18/2019 at 17:52 |

as the owner of a 97 land cruiser with a 4 speed, it bothers me. i really wish for another one or two gears in that thing.
![]() 06/18/2019 at 17:55 |
|
I am sympathetic to wanting just one more gear. I would kill for a highway gear for my car... 3200 rpm at 70 mph is literally watching money burn.
![]() 06/18/2019 at 17:55 |
|
Came here to say this...in certain trim it actually looks pretty decent. And it’s stupidly affordable...especially for folks who just need the space to transport family and don’t care about Driving Dynamics (TM)...who cares? Let them live their best life.

You know what I mean. It’s like calling a Ford F-150 a car. It’s a vehicle.
![]() 06/18/2019 at 18:10 |

I told you to get one back when you were having that car crisis.
![]() 06/18/2019 at 18:12 |

Wow, 70mph must be nice.

They stopped selling pt cruisers.

Wow, that’s the same as my Datsun and it has a 4-speed, manual. My Outback is 3,000 at 80 mph.
![]() 06/18/2019 at 18:48 |
|
That’s nice. I’ve got a Fiat Freemont...
![]() 06/18/2019 at 19:18 |

Preach. I have a 4-speed in the F-150 and it's crying out for a few more cogs.
![]() 06/18/2019 at 22:36 |

The last car I rented... was one of these. Had to move DD out of her dorm room at college. It didn’t suck. I prefer my Outback, though.
![]() 06/18/2019 at 23:07 |

I’ll jump to the defense of the Journey as well. Had one as a rental recently and I was prepared to hate it. I honestly very much liked it and would consider one for a family hauler.
![]() 06/19/2019 at 07:05 |

The lack of sliders is the deal breaker.
![]() 06/19/2019 at 07:05 |
|
It’s a vehicle, definitely not a car ;)
Joking aside, fuel economy wise, they’re on par with every other 3rd row CUV. Safety wise, frankly I’m happy they lack all the poor-driver assists.
![]() 06/19/2019 at 07:08 |
|
Is it really a lack of gears or just poor gearing?
My van only has a 4 speed, yet I’m only turning 2200 rpms cruising at 80 mph.
![]() 06/19/2019 at 07:09 |
|
That’s not lack of gears, that’s poor gearing.
My van at 80 mph is only turning 2200 rpms from it’s 4 speed. My car turns 2500 rpms at 80 mph. Hell the 92 only turns 2900 at 80 mph from it’s 3 speed!

They say the same thing, replied to different people.
![]() 06/19/2019 at 07:34 |

My sister’s Rogue has cameras that let you see the front, the rear, and an overhead view of the car as you get into a spot.
![]() 06/19/2019 at 07:46 |
|
The Journey has these things called mirrors and visibility.......
![]() 06/19/2019 at 09:36 |
|
It's an underpowered machine that suffers from power loss at 5000-12000ft of elevation which requires me to keep it in a lower gear to climb inclines. Downhill and level terrain is just fine.
![]() 06/19/2019 at 09:59 |
|
So combo of gearing and lack of power. Not really anything to do with lack of gears...
![]() 06/19/2019 at 14:05 |

“one of the few CUVs I’d actually consider” and "the only CUV I’d consider” are two different things there, pal.
